Happy 2022, everyone! In the past year, many blog readers have asked me “Where are you?”. Well, let me tell you all about my exciting 2021. “Coach Meets World” is not only a play on that 1990s sitcom title. I have spent the past year connecting with a global community, serving the world beyond my shores. All while seating in front of my computer screen at home! Here are some of my 2021 adventures, including opportunities for you to participate going forward:
ICF Foundation Council of Ambassadors
In 2021, I had the honor of serving as a global ambassador for the ICF Foundation. The Foundation is the branch of the International Coaching Federation (ICF) that promotes coaching for social impact. As the Social Leadership Coach, you know this is a mission dear to my heart!
I got the chance to see the inspiring work coaches are doing around the world. From coaching youngsters in poor communities in Latin America to coaching medical staff in Asia during the pandemic – they do it all.
If you are a coach interested in coaching for social impact, read my article on how to start.
ICF Coaching Education Advisory Committee on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ)
Have you ever thought about what inclusion or justice looks like in different parts of the globe? Or. what equity means in a classroom environment for a growing profession like coaching? It is my privilege to reflect on these issues as part of the DEIJ Advisory Committee for ICF Coaching Education. It is the ICF branch that sets standards for coaching education programs worldwide.
In 2021, we collaborated on a diversity/inclusion resource guide for coaching educators.
Listening in the Friction
A few colleagues and I created the group Listening in the Friction. We are a sisterhood of listening professionals who uphold the values of racial, social, and environmental justice.
In late 2021, we created and hosted our first Friction Lab. A Friction Lab is a virtual safe space for people to practice constructive friction conversations. We will host more of these in 2022. So, sign up to learn more.
All We Can Save Reading Circle
And, the year of “Coach Meets World” continues! During the fall, a friend I had met through the Pachamama Alliance invited me to her reading circle for “All We Can Save”. I spent 10 weeks talking about climate change and justice with women from all over the United States.
Since it was such an amazing experience, I am paying it forward. Listening in the Friction is hosting a new “All We Can Save” Conversation Circle. It starts on January 25, 2022. So, please join us!
United Nations
One of my fondest childhood memories is traveling to Washington DC every year with my high school’s Model UN team. Therefore, you can imagine how thrilled I was to participate in a 2021 UN consultation on mental health in peacebuilding. And, I got even more excited when I was hired to coach UN personnel around the world. It is my privilege to coach people putting their lives on the line to make this a more equitable and sustainable planet. Talk about “coach meets world”!
Other Cool Stuff
Throughout 2021, I led coaching circles for international participants on a wide range of subjects – from building resilience to peak productivity.
I designed a learning initiative on collaboration for a major company practicing conscious business.
I got to mentor a group of female social entrepreneurs just starting their journey.
And, I gave quite a few presentations for global audiences, such as:
Converge 2021
Webinars on DEIJ, executive coaching, supervision, and coaching for social impact
Ms. “Coach Meets World” also participated in a few Clubhouses and podcasts, including one with Gabriel Furman from Chile/Israel.
Coming up in 2022: ICF Coaching Education Global Board of Directors
Yes! I am now on the ICFCE BoD! (Can you tell I’m excited?)
So, where am I? Right where I need to be.
PS. My plan for 2022 is to release at least 1 article per month.
