Saying “thank you” is a great way to spread kindness and a positive outlook. Cultivate an attitude of gratitude in yourself and others. This week, practice this skill by giving a heartfelt “thank you” to at least 3 people who have made a true difference in your life. Here are the keys to an awesome “thank you”.
Mean it
Authenticity is fundamental to connecting with the recipient of your “thank you”. It turns the common throw away line into a relationship builder. This is true whether you are expressing gratitude to your spouse, a client, an employee or a neighbor.
Be Specific
How has this person impacted your life? Tell them the exact thing for which you are grateful.
For example, I thank you for dedicating part of your day to reading this article. I created this blog to be of service to people working to change the world. Therefore, I feel fulfilled knowing you get value from my posts.
Listen to the Reaction
Authentic, intentional gratitude tends to get a big reaction from those who receive it. Many recipients are surprised and some may feel uncomfortable. Yet, most are moved. Be present, so you can really listen to what the other person has to say. Powerful connection is a two-way street.
